FIXED PROSTHODONTICS

At Mayfield Smiles, we pride ourselves on making dentistry as natural and natural-looking as possible. We want our patients to feel comfortable and confident in their smiles.

Dental crowns and dental bridges are proven and effective long-term treatments for dental issues caused by accidents, disease, or natural decay and wear. These solutions allow natural teeth the time they need to heal while restoring full functionality of the mouth for the patient.

We offer the following permanent tooth replacement options to keep our patients smiling:

  • Dental Crowns (Caps)

  • Dental Bridges

  • Dental Implants

Dental Crowns (Caps)

A patient qualifies for a dental crown when their tooth is so badly damaged that it can no longer be repaired. We create new dental crowns and replace existing ones - making both options look as natural as your real teeth. Dental crowns are created out of porcelain, which can last for 20-30 years when properly maintained. Not only do dental crowns replace missing or broken teeth, they eliminate issues related to chewing and complete your smile, naturally.

Dental Crown Process

First Visit:  Our dental professionals will clean and shape the tooth in order to create a custom mold for the permanent crown. The tooth will then be fitted with a temporary plastic crown as a placeholder while an FDA-approved dental lab creates the final cap.

Second Visit:  The temporary crown will be replaced with the permanent crown from the lab. Once it is adjusted and cemented into place, your smile will be complete!

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges come into play when a patient is missing one or more teeth and they need to be replaced to maintain full oral functionality, overall appearance, and decrease the risk for gum disease.  This process involves placing caps over two natural teeth or implants on either side of the missing tooth and placing a custom bridge of the prosthetic porcelain teeth (pontic) over the caps (abutment teeth). Dental bridges can be either permanent (fixed bridges) or removable.

  • Removable Dental Bridges - attached with metal clasps or custom-made attachments.

  • Fixed Dental Bridges - can work in conjunction with permanent crowns over the implants/natural teeth (abutment teeth) or by cementing the bridge to the abutment teeth.

Dental Bridge Process

First Visit: Our dental professionals will clean and prepare the teeth on both sides of the missing tooth to prepare for the caps or implants. They will then take impressions of the teeth that surround and are across from the missing tooth to guarantee that the bridge will fit as intended. The impressions will be sent to the lab for the final product.

Second Visit: Once the completed bridge is returned from the lab, it is then cemented to the dental caps, which are covering the natural teeth, reinforcing and strengthening the fixed bridge.
