Meet the Mayfield Smiles Dental Team
Dr. Maemie Chan | Dentist in Mayfield, OH
Dr. Maemie Chan is a downtown Chicago Native and moved to Cleveland, Ohio to pursue dentistry. She graduated from Purdue University with a degree in psychology, she then moved to Cleveland and earned her DMD from Case Western Reserve University and pursued a one-year advanced general dentistry practice residency at Saint Vincent Charity Hospital. She is now currently medical staff at Saint Vincent Charity and works in private practice with Dr. Paul Priesand in Mayfield. Dr. Chan is board-certified to treat patients within the hospital setting as well as private practice.

Her areas of expertise range from surgical extractions and implants, medically compromised patients, young children, cosmetic reconstruction, to routine dental care. Dr. Chan is an elite member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Academy of General Dentistry, Chicago Dental Association, American Dental Association, Ohio Dental Association, and The Greater Cleveland Dental Association.

Dr. David Hudec, Jr. | Managing Partner
Dr. David Hudec, Jr. is proud to be the managing partner of Mayfield Smiles having grown up in Cleveland. He earned his undergraduate degree at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, and graduated from Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine. He provides comprehensive family dentistry to the Mayfield Heights community.

Commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Navy, he was stationed in Kings Bay, Georgia, and then served as a U.S. Navy Dental Officer on multiple deployments to the Persian Gulf aboard the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower.
After his world travels, Dr. Hudec was pleased to reestablish his roots at home in Greater Cleveland. His passion for quality dental care and his genuine, personal approach sets the tone here at Mayfield Smiles.

Dr. John Schuster | Retired
Dr. John Schuster is originally from Erie, PA. He assures his patients that he never was nor will ever be a Steelers fan! Dr. Schuster received his DDS from Case Western Reserve in 1985. Previous to receiving his degree, Dr. Schuster received his Bachelors from Washington and Jefferson College in 1975. He also has a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston Texas.

After dental school, Dr. Schuster joined the Navy. Upon his separation from the Navy in 1988, Dr. Schuster continued his military service in the reserves, retiring in 2011 as a Captain. Dr. Schuster has been in private practice since his honorable discharge from the Navy. He brings over 30 years of dental knowledge and experience to our office. In 1992, Dr. Schuster started taking orthodontic and TMJ courses so he could offer these services to his patients.
Dr. Schuster is married to the former Elinor Levy, who he met while they were in graduate school in Houston. They have two (adult) children, Rachel and Jason, and their lovable beagle Buster!
When he isn’t working, Dr. Schuster likes to indulge in new hobbies. He is an avid photographer, reader of crime fiction, traveler, and, only on days that end in y, a golfer. He has a group of ex-Navy friends who go “across the pond” every year to play the classic links courses in the UK and Ireland. He’s not sure why he spends a lot of money and free time to play golf in a place that has worse weather than Cleveland, but he seems to enjoy it – he keeps going back!

Denise
Registered Dental Hygienist & Office Manager

Denise has been part of our Mayfield dental team since 2001, serving as both a registered dental hygienist and office manager. With decades of experience in dentistry, Denise offers expertise in insurance coordination, periodontal therapy, patient education and preventative care for both children and adults.
A graduate of Lakeland Community College’s Dental Hygiene Program, Denise is certified by the Dental Hygiene National Board, North East Regional Dental Hygiene Board, and the Ohio State Dental Board. Denise’s strong clinical knowledge and leadership make her an essential part of our patient-first approach.
Originally from Middlefield, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
Paula
Registered Dental Hygienist

A proud Cleveland native now residing in Mentor, Ohio, Paula brings over 25 years of experience in dental hygiene to our Mayfield dental office. She graduated from Lakeland Community College in 1992 and has spent her career creating lasting relationships with patients through compassionate, personalized care.
Paula’s favorite part of dentistry is connecting with patients and making them feel at ease. Her warm, welcoming personality is felt throughout the practice.
When she’s not helping patients maintain healthy smiles, Paula enjoys baking and spending time with her husband, their two daughters and their first grandchild.
Angela
Registered Dental Hygienist

Angela is a highly experienced dental hygienist with over 30 years in the field. She has been with our Mayfield dental team since its beginning, working alongside Dr. John Schuster from the start. Her meticulous care, attention to detail, and gentle approach have earned her the trust and affection of generations of patients.
Angela and her husband currently reside in Willoughby. She is an avid traveler and foodie who loves exploring new destinations through cuisine. Patients appreciate her thorough cleanings and kind demeanor. Angela truly knows and adores her patients, and the feeling is mutual.
Sierra
Certified Dental Assistant

Sierra has been working in dentistry since 2021 and brings a unique blend of clinical experience and patient-centered care to our Mayfield dental practice. In addition to being a certified dental assistant, she holds an esthetician license—showcasing her eye for detail and commitment to overall wellness.
Sierra loves helping patients feel confident in their smiles and goes above and beyond to make each visit comfortable, informative and positive. Her approachable nature and passion for dentistry make her a key part of our dental team. Sierra is will be expanding her skills and knowledge by attending EFDA (Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary) school this fall at Case Western Reserve University.
Outside the office, Sierra enjoys trying new restaurants with her fiancé and spending time with their dog and cat. Whether she’s assisting with restorative treatments or simply sharing a smile, she’s dedicated to enhancing every patient's experience.
Rita
Registered Dental Hygienist

Rita brings over 15 years of dental experience and joyful energy to our Mayfield dental practice. Originally from Massachusetts, she has a natural gift for making patients feel at ease with her warm and upbeat personality. Rita specializes in preventative dental care and is passionate about helping patients maintain healthy smiles for life. She enjoys forming genuine connections with patients of all ages.
When she’s not in the office, Rita explores Cleveland’s vibrant food and cultural scene with her husband and two young sons. Her compassionate approach and love for dentistry make her a true asset to our team.

With over 30 years of experience in dentistry, Lucy brings unmatched professionalism to our front desk team. Before joining our dental practice in Mayfield, she worked at Case Western Reserve University, where she supported the training of hundreds of future dentists and collaborated with some of the top minds in the field.
Lucy now brings that same dedication and depth of experience to our patients, helping to ensure every visit runs smoothly and stress-free. She lives in Mentor with her son and is proud to serve the local dental community.
Julie
Dental Assistant

Julie has been a vital part of our Mayfield dental practice for over 20 years. With deep knowledge of general and cosmetic dentistry, she is best known for her expertise in shade matching-ensuring beautiful, natural-looking restorations for our patients.
Julie’s calm demeanor, clinical precision, and friendly approach make her a favorite among patients. She takes pride in providing custom care and making every dental visit a positive experience.
Outside the office, Julie enjoys relaxing by her pool with her husband, twin daughters and their dog.

Jessie is a welcoming and knowledgeable member of our front office staff with over five years of experience in dental administration. A proud Mayfield resident, she’s passionate about creating a smooth, friendly experience for each patient from check-in to checkout. Jessie brings warmth, efficiency and a deep understanding of dental care to her role.
Outside of work, she enjoys photography and spending time with her five children. Her love for dentistry and people shines through in everything she does.
