Flying 1,000 Miles for Mayfield Smiles’ Top Dental Care

While Mayfield Smiles routinely serves patients and families throughout Northeast Ohio, Dakota Thomas, a Florida resident, had the opportunity to receive dental care from Dr. Hudec and Dr. Chan and she didn’t hesitate to take it.

Dr. Chan invited Dakota to participate in a minimal-prep veneer course, a continuing education class designed to improve dentists’ skills in cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry.

“I was living in Florida at the time, but I flew up to Cleveland to participate in this course with  Dr. Hudec and Dr. Chan,” said Dakota. “They did a trial smile for me.”

A trial smile is a process using scans that allows a dentist to create customized mock-ups of what a patient’s teeth will look like after the dental work is completed.

“I had bonding on a few of my front teeth already and they gave me x-rays,” explained Dakota.  “They had to make sure that all the porcelain that they were using was going to fit in my mouth.”

Dakota said she was impressed by not only the beautiful, state-of-the-art dental ceramics lab where the course was held but by the care that Dr. Hudec, who performed the procedures, and Dr. Chan provided her. “They made sure I was comfortable. They had medications available to put me at ease and for any pain I experienced after, which was minimal.”

She also noted that they were patient and accommodating with her schedule.  “I live in a different time zone, but they were very willing to cater to my needs, which was really nice since I live a busy lifestyle,” Dakota said.

Dakota received temporary veneers, which she wore for a few weeks. She then flew back up to Cleveland and had her long-term veneers applied.

“I’m very happy with my smile. I get a lot of compliments and my 6-year-old twin daughters tell me, ‘Mommy, you have a beautiful smile,’’ so I think that makes it worth it!”
